Lurker

all is black
and calm
the air
like oil
thick with smoke
a passing car
illuminates her eyes
young and weak
and I,
merely a visitor,
watch as her
thin legs cross
the street
in shadows.
I feel warmth
the seductive
gaze of youth
I am merely
a visitor
passing through
veins and arteries
with motor vehicles
as blood cells
giving life
to this
still
darkness
before
sleepers awaken
to screams
